Help I really need to know this for my science project! I’m doing a presentation about the solar system.
Oh are you serious? Wow I always thought the sun went around the Earth.

Looks like I would have failed my project lol haha.

Ok then how many times does the Earth revolve around the Sun in one month?

Most, if not all would agree, that the sun is vital for human life to exist on earth. The sun with its solar system rotates around an arm of the Milky Way Galaxy composed of many stars, which in turn rotates around the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy composed of millions of stars. The Milky Way Galaxy
itself rotates around the local group of galaxies, which in turn probably rotate around a larger group. Perhaps this continues indefinately. It appears to mean that for life to exist on earth all these billions of heavenly bodies must exist as part of a great clock perhaps to infinity. If this is true, it is an awesome thought. The cost of our existence is beyond calculation. Is this true, using the facts of science alone ?

Since science says that the Sun is like 4.5 Billion years old, isn't that proof that they're wrong about earth?

As in, this is what Wiki says about the Sun:

"Solar formation is dated in two ways: the Sun’s current main sequence age, determined using computer models of stellar evolution and nucleocosmochronology, is thought to be about 4.57 billion years. This is in close accord with the radiometric date of the oldest solar system material, at 4.567 billion years ago"

Well they also say that 750 million years ago, or roughly a billion years ago, the earth start having volcanic activity and water started evaporating and stuff, etc, etc.

Well science also says that if the Sun became like three degrees cooler, the earth would freeze. So since a billion years ago, the sun was obviously three degrees cooler because the sun gets bigger over time, isn’t that proof that the things they said happened on earth a billion years ago, well, didn’t happen?
hehe, well I can’t back up the three degree cooler thing, that’s what someone told me that science says. ^_^
Thomas H does have a point. :)
well, lets put up Genesis 1 to see what it says:

Genesis 1
The History of Creation
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
He may not believe the earth is billions of years old, I don’t know. What I do know is that he also was no science major, and most likely didn’t like school.

But those are the exact same people who every now and then, say something brilliant. :)
Religiuous Amanda, are you religious?

I’ve always wondered. ^_^
I did ask. ^_^

how the value of light year has been derived?

I’m a Catholic, but I don’t take the Bible literally, I’m not saying that the Bible shouldn’t be believed, but it should be read metaphorically, especially if it contradicts scientific discoveries, I take St. Augustine’s position on Bible interpretation, and of course, I don’t believe that the Earth is at the center of the Solar System, it’s the Sun, but this scientific truth contradicts a few Bible verses if it is read literally…

Psalm 93:1: The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Psalm 96:10: Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.
1 Chronicles 16:30: Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Psalm 104:5: He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.
Ecclesiastes 1:5: The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.

In 1633, the Catholic Church used these Bible verses to attack and disprove Galileo’s theory that the Earth is not the center of the Universe, that the Earth orbits around the Sun, along with the other planets, but of course, Galileo had some error, he theorized that the Sun was the center of the Universe, but we know that’s not true, the Sun is the center of the Solar System, but the Church was also wrong in it’s literal interpretation of these verses, the Earth moves, it orbits around the Sun, along with the other planets around the Sun, the Sun rises and sets, but not because the Sun is moving, but because the Earth is orbiting around the Sun…

Galileo took St Augustine’s position on Scripture, St. Augustine took the view that the Biblical text should not be interpreted as properly literal, but rather as metaphorical, if it contradicts what we know from science and our God-given reason. While each passage of Scripture has a literal sense, this "literal sense" does not always mean that the Scriptures are mere history; at times they are rather an extended metaphor…

The Inquisition of the Roman Catholic Church forced Galileo to recant his theory that the Earth moves around the Sun, under threat of torture. But as he left the courtroom, he is said to have muttered, "E pur si muove (And yet it moves)."

The Vatican in 1992, after 359 years, finally admits that Galileo was right, that the Church’s literal interpretation of Psalm 93:1, Psalm 96:10, 1 Chronicles 16:30, Psalm 104:5, Ecclesiastes 1:5 was wrong…

Will it follow the same history as other claims which Christians once made in defiance of science, such as a geocentric astronomy (denying Copernican solar system), immovable earth that neither rotates nor moves through space, human beings couldn’t be inhabiting the Southern Hemisphere and have a soul, etc.?
