ATHEISTS: Have you ever had a science teacher who was a strict Christian? Should they be allowed to teach?

My Earth Science teacher says he thinks everything was created by God.
I had a test today with an question asking about the different theories of the creation of the universe.
This is what I put:
God created the Earth as described in the Bible, and he may have directed evolution.
I got that answer right and an A+, my teacher said he agrees wholeheartedly. Lawlz.
Is this how terrible the American education system is? Atheists, have you had a strict Christian science teacher before? Should they be allowed to teach science? Science conflicts with religion, no doubt.
BTW I live in southern Virginia, where everything is Christian.
why do young earth creationists think science is something you believe in?

i see it all the time "i don’t BELIEVE in evolution" but science isn’t a belief system or a religion…it doesn’t need faith(belief without evidence or proof) but science offers up proof (testable verifiable proof)…whenever people try to push creationism in the classrooms it isnt because there is more evidence that is better proven, it is because they dont BELIEVE in evolution and want "equal time for both theories" but the truth is, evolution is a theory creationism is a hypothesis(theories have been tested and retested and if the results added up then it is accepted after years of testing, hypothesizes are just guesses, usually educated guesses. Creationism is just a guess no evidence behind it, no peer review done and before someone cries conspiracy the offer stands, go have your hypothisis peer reviewed… see how well it stands up ) so why try to bring science down to the level of an outdated unchanging religion that cant keep up with the times…

Musings on the story of Earth, life, mind and spirit. Exploring the creative impulse of the cosmos through evolution. Music: Shpongle At the heart of evolution is the story of an awakening universe, matter awakening to Spirit, Godhead, Omega Point, or “Life.” Being and becoming. In that sense, the story of the evolution of consciousness is a way for a greater “Being” to begin to shine through. A few interesting connections…. Process philosophy, as well as in Teilhard’s philosophy, the heart of all matter is Spirit, or God. Divine consciousness within all “form.” The universe, then, is always and already and expression of the Whole. Formless manifests form and awakens to itself. Evolution is a process of “sublimating,” the world in the divine, two as one. Being and becoming, flux and direction. Ever more penetrating and awakening… In that sense, consciousness is not your brain. It is infinitely more, the “ever present origin.” Matter, life, the nervous system, the brain, mind itself are “conduits,” for a gradual awakening in the material world. Humans are significant here, because we are, at least on this world, one of the first “forms” to begin to recognize the inner Wholeness to reality. For more reading and information, check out Teilhard de Chardin’s work, Gaia Hypothesis, Ken Wilber, Sri Aurobindo, Jean Gebser, Whitehead, and many others (if you have a suggestion, please leave it in comments or PM me for further addition!) James Lovelock is the author of approximately 200 scientific papers, distributed almost equally among topics in Medicine, Biology, Instrument Science and Geophysiology. He has filed more than 50 patents, mostly for detectors for use in chemical analysis. One of these, the electron capture detector, was important in the development of environmental awareness. It revealed for the first time the ubiquitous distribution of pesticide residues and other halogen bearing chemicals. This information enabled Rachel Carson to write her book, Silent Spring, often said to have initiated the awareness of environmental disturbance. Later it enabled the discovery of the presence of PCB’s in the natural environment. More recently the electron capture detector was responsible for the discovery of the global distribution of nitrous oxide and of the chlorofluorocarbons, both of which are important in the stratospheric chemistry of ozone. Some of his inventions were adopted by NASA in their programme of planetary exploration. He was awarded by NASA three certificates of recognition for these. He is the originator of the Gaia Hypothesis (now Gaia Theory) and has written four books on the subject: Gaia: a new look at life on Earth, (Oxford University Press, 1979); The Ages of Gaia, (WW Norton, 1988); Gaia: the practical science of planetary medicine, (Gaia Books, 1991), and Homage to Gaia (2000). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1974 and in 1975 received the Tswett Medal for …

Evolution as defined as relative adaptations to its environment, true! But as a whole, life does appear to have tendencies, patterns, towards more complexity. This goes into theories such as Lovelock’s Gaia Hypothesis, that life functions more like an organisms when looked at as a whole. This is another interesting subject that I’d gladly show a few tests Lovelock posited (including one interesting computer simulation.)

My thoughts on our emerging global culture. Inspired by: Mythologist Joseph Campbell. In “The Power of Myth,” and many other works and talks, he expressed our need for New Myths for the 21st Century. He suggested the iconic photo of Earth in space, “The Blue Marble,” taken by Apollo 17 in 1972. Another iconic photo — and the first view of Earth rising over the Moon — was taken by Apollo 8, in 1968. This was the first image ever taken by humans of the whole Earth. And the book: “Reality Isn’t What It Used To Be: Theatrical Politics, Ready-To-Wear Religion, Global Myths, Primitive Chic, and Other Wonders of the Postmodern World.” By Walter Truett Anderson He shows how our postmodern world presents the friction of belief systems — which define the primary philosophical divisions of our time. Published in 1990 by Harper SanFrancisco. And the classic book: “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man” By Marshall McLuhan He elucidates how our technology alters our senses. He originated the expressions, “The Medium is the Message” and “The Global Village.” And also: “Promethea,” by Alan Moore. Presents the Apocalypse as a Revelation of our divine nature. The comic book series is available as graphic novels. MUSIC by: Band: Love and Rockets Album: “Lift” Song: “Lift – Malibu Mix” Slightly edited. (p and copyright 1998, Red Ant, LLC.) press.princeton.edu Will we extend life into space before a catastrophe stops us permanently? Those going into space will be impelled by an exploratory urge. But their choices will have epochal consequences. Once the threshold is crossed when there is a self-sustaining level of life in space, then lifes long-range future will be secure irrespective of any of the risks on Earth (with the single exception of the catastrophic destruction of space itself). Will this happen before our technical civilisation disintegrates, leaving this as a might-have-been? Will the self-sustaining space communities be established before a catastrophe sets back the prospect of any such enterprise, perhaps foreclosing it for ever? We live at what could be a defining moment for the cosmos, not just for our Earth. The colonization of space is an evolutionary step similar to the colonization of land This would be as epochal an evolutionary transition as that which led to land-based life on Earth. But it could still be just the beginning of cosmic evolution. The enormous potential of future life is dependent on our actions today The first aquatic creatures crawled onto dry land in the Silurian era, more than three hundred million years ago. They may have been unprepossessing brutes, but had they been clobbered, the evolution of land-based fauna would have been jeopardised. Likewise, the post-human potential is so immense that not even the most misanthropic amongst us would countenance its being …

Cosmology.com This video details the scientific evidence proving that microbial life lived on Mars from 4 billion to at least 1 million years ago. A documentary film by Rhawn Joseph, Ph.D. This film is the Third chapter (Part 3), from the 55 minute film God & The Origin of Life. This video and the associated chapters, are founded on considerable scientific evidence and are not based on religion or conceptions of god. Some viewers leap to irrational conclusions about religion or god based on the title. Each chapter may be viewed, on youtube, in any order. 1: God & the Origin of Life: The Myth of the Organic Soup. /watch?v=ByUod2VmBQY 2: Meteors & the Origins of Life /watch?v=eW9nMJR4wWk 3: Life on Mars /watch?v=Wj4Q1hPRoDs 4: Fossils & Life Found on the Moon /watch?v=M0JWiZK5bUI 5: Origins: Life is Everywhere. In order to protect the status quo, the “scientific establishment” typically falsely classifies all arguments and evidence challenging their beliefs, as an either/or choice between: science vs religion. There is a 3rd choice, represented by these videos, are based on 100% pure science and have nothing to do with religion or intelligent design. The attack against religion is a “straw dog …

Steve Harvey is in need of an education. His insecurity and reaction to even the mention of a free thought or science makes him resort to a ridiculous non sequitur, ignorance on evolution, and complete idiocy. It is Steve Harvey who needs to answer why his specific theist faith has any merit or validity for common morality. Science is progressive & credible. Steve Harvey we do NOT descend from modern apes. They are our evolutionary relatives. Study the DNA. The fact that we have a common ancestor destroys racism and many other bad isms. “The world was once lifeless, and when life began it was a poor sort of life consisting of green slime and other uninteresting things. Gradually by the course of evolution, it developed into animals and plants and at last into MAN. Man, so the theologians assure us, is so splendid a Being that he may well be regarded as the culmination to which the long ages of nebula and slime were a prelude. I think the theologians must have been fortunate in their human contacts. They do not seem to me to have given due weight to Hitler or the Beast of Belsen. If Omnipotence, with all time at its disposal, thought it worth while to lead up to these men through the many millions of years of evolution, I can only say that the moral and aesthetic taste involved is peculiar. However, the theologians no doubt hope that the future course of evolution will produce more men like themselves and fewer men like Hitler. Let us hope so. But, in cherishing this hope …
