Why don't many science teachers know how to teach?

In my life I’ve had one science teacher (freshman year) for a biology class that knew how to teach. She went to a very prestigious college in America and was one of the smartest teachers I’ve known.

However, it seems like every other science teacher doesn’t know how to teach or know what they’re talking about. My chemistry teacher is young and doesn’t know a lot about chemistry. I’m also taking physics and my physics teacher doesn’t know how to teach either. She doesn’t even know a lot beyond the basic curriculum of physics.

My worst science teacher experience was taking Earth Science. My teacher literally played a video every day about something new, so everyday for an hour and a half during that semester we watched videos such as "The Moon" and "The Sun". It was the most terrible class ever, and my teacher didn’t know anything.

Before high school, middle school was worse. My 6th grade teacher taught us some stuff, my 7th grade teacher basically retaught the same stuff, and the same thing in 8th grade. Every year was "scientific method, independent variable, metric system" followed by a little bit about science.

It seems like my English teachers are very proficient in their subject, my history teachers have been really smart and provide very analytical discussions, and my math teachers have been wonderful.

But every teacher I’ve had in science except for my bio teacher has been terrible.

This isn’t just me, most people I know say that their science teacher doesn’t know anything or how to teach.

Why? Is it because science itself is too complex for someone with a job as simple as teaching to understand?

(no offense to teachers)

No, it’s not just me. Science teachers in general are pretty crappy (except for the AP teachers and IB teachers they’re very good)

But the honors and regular teachers usually suck from my experience and from my friends’ experiences
