In the old days people believed the earth was the center of the universe and they felt that corroborated their faith in God. They thought life was beautiful and complex and the heavens were merely made up of a few lights, the sun and the moon, maybe some comets/meteorites and that was about it. They thought that the Earth was a huge flat part of the universe, but we know different now.

Every belief they had, seemed to corroborate their belief in Gods’ faithfulness and his testimony of his existence. Now we know the sun is the center of the solar system, earth is a nearly insignificant part of the universe and the rest of the universe is extremely complex and treacherous at that. As science has helped us learn more about reality, just about every belief that led us to confirm our belief in God has changed or turned upside down.

How is it that every belief, no matter how accurate or false, can confirm God’s existence. Doesn’t this just show that people will believe in God no matter what the facts are? Doesn’t that just show that we have a natural tendency to believe in God, despite evidence? Isn’t it illogical to believe in God for two opposite reasons, and to just keep throwing away the wrong reason, once you find out its wrong? How do you defend that?

Earth is pretty significant to me no matter what science may say

It’s common enough knowledge that not all sciences
are exact; that’s quite literally impossible.
Also, you should take into account, that people’s be-
liefs in God have changed over the generations; and it’s
largely because of the many progressions of sciences
    that that’s occurred.
But, whether you choose to believe in God or not, it
would be nothing short of totally pointless to say that
nature is not due to some certain system (or power, if
you prefer); one that cannot ever be explained to all of
    mankind’s satisfaction.
(And, isn’t that, in itself, a heck of a good reason to
simply stop, every now and then, and "gaze up at the
stars" or just "smell the roses"?)
No Christian, Catholic, Mormon, Muslim, etc., who is
aware that no two people can be of the exact same
opinion, is going to insist: "You absolutely must follow
my religion, in order to ‘wake up and smell the coffee!’ "

It is possible to believe both in God, and in Science – the two are not mutually exclusive. So no, it would not affect my faith in God at all – I would still believe in Him. In fact, in depth research by modern scientists actually backs up what the Bible teaches. Check out these websites – they can help to answer some of your questions from a scientific and archaeological point of view -

The bible lines up with true science:
    Genesis 22:17
Blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

    Jeremiah 33:22
“As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.”

Dinosaurs are referred to in several Bible books. The book of Job describes two dinosaurs. One is described in chapter 40 starting at verse 15, and the other in chapter 41 starting at verse 1. We think you will agree that 1½ chapters about dinosaurs is a lot—since most people do not even realize that they are mentioned in the Bible.

The Bible also says that each star is unique.

    1 Corinthians 15:41
There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

The Bible describes the precision of movement in the universe.

    Jeremiah 31:35,36
    Thus says the LORD,
Who gives the sun for a light by day,
The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night,
    Who disturbs the sea,
    And its waves roar
(The LORD of hosts is His name):
    “If those ordinances depart
From before Me, says the LORD,
Then the seed of Israel shall also cease
From being a nation before Me forever.”

The Bible describes the suspension of the Earth in space.

    Job 26:7
    He stretches out the north over empty space;
He hangs the earth on nothing.
    Statements Consistent With Meteorology

The Bible describes the circulation of the atmosphere.

    Ecclesiastes 1:6
The wind goes toward the south,
    And turns around to the north;
    The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.

The Bible includes some principles of fluid dynamics.

    Job 28:25
To establish a weight for the wind,
And apportion the waters by measure.
The fact that air has weight was proven scientifically only about 300 years ago. The relative weights of air and water are needed for the efficient functioning of the world’s hydrologic cycle, which in turn sustains life on the earth.[1] (If you are a physics enthusiast, please ignore our omission of the terms mass, gravity, and density from this comment.)

You don’t seem to understand what "faith" is.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us – "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
    Faith is evidence?
Wait! This goes directly against what you just concluded. As we find more and more evidence (in science), we should have less and less faith. But this is not what the Bible teaches us. As we get more and more evidence in the realm of the sciences, our faith in God gets stronger !
Why is that? Again, scripture allows us a peak at what and who God is in the middle of this Creation.
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power……, so that they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)

Ever hoped for anything? Really, really hoped for a new bike? And when you got it, how much did you continue to hope for a new bike? You stopped hoping. This IS the central aspect of religion. We "hope" for God has promised us in this life and in the life hereafter.
Look to those that have committed suicide. The common answer for suicide is that they ALL lost hope.

Bring on science! It only offers and confirms God more and more.

  • Mαθητης:

It’d have already done with evillution. Nope, therefore.

  • calley:

    not all science is science

for example, evolutionism requires faith so it would be religion, not science

  • mainlee1:

xtians live in terror and think the only thing protecting them from getting possessed is their god. They fear if they agree that the bible is wrong, then their god will be angry and sick the demons on them. Serious!

  • Dont Touch xXx:

If you really believe in your faith then nothing even in the science can change your faith, how do you know god isn’t testing your faith?
how do we know that god isn’t testing our faith everyday? when we are in a path with many obstacles and big deep wholes to cross?

When we use the word God we are referring to a greater power.
The human being is lead to believe that we are very sophisticated and we are the most intelligent species, but that scares us just how powerful we are and to deal with this we embark on this God this greater power.

The thing is with science and religion true believers will always twist the science, by saying things like ‘how do you know God’s not testing your faith?’ ‘how do you know God hasn’t lead you to believe this to test you to see if you believe what this evidence is giving you how do you know this evidence is viable?’ things like that the fact is people will twist things to make you believe this.

True believers do not let science or God effect their beliefs.
No matter what the concept is, If we were true believers the concept for us wouldn’t even change we would still believe that the concept remains the same and till the day we die science cannot change your opinion on world and the universe.

Science is one thing and religion is another sometimes we need to open our minds to see pass the things we see threw the window, sometimes we need to go out side and investigate to see all that life has to offer and see what we would never of seen with out looking beond the window.

Religion seems to be a massive game of chinese whispers on going since possible the dawn of time – maybe since we learned about fire, maybe there was a God but maybe just maybe what’s written is not the truth, an unless we can go back in time to see this we will never know the truth and for those believe they will channel that fact it might not be true threw a God to find the truth.

No one knows and no one will ever know, Science or know science, we will never know what the truth is.So no one will ever be right. It’s what we believe so really we just need to be open to the things around us and not just see what we want to see.

  • EnlightenedOne:

I look for no proof. I have felt the touch inside and that is all I need. Since I already see the differences between science and religion a misunderstood argument on both sides, science will make no difference in my beliefs; no matter what is discovered.

  • charchar:

I pay no attention to and am not influenced by the opinions of carnal man.

My belief in God can not be changed by humans. Scientists are humans, subject to being wrong. Two scientists can look at something and see it two different ways depending on their beliefs.

  • Michael K:

Your argument is appeal to design, a logical fallacy. Secondly, you assert that scientific discoveries say, "Yes, there is a God," when science has nothing to say on the matter.

How can you you do that? Secondly, to say you can only believe in science or God is a false dichotomy. You can believe in/ accept both. A "natural tendency" to believe in a supernatural "creator" does not make the creator real.

@ calley: Evolution requires faith? If it requires faith, then scientists would accept it without evidence. That isn’t the case in ANY scientific field.

@ xxxRiffxxx: That begs the question, "How do you know that’s true?"

  • xxxRiffxxx:

All I know is that man makes mistakes, but my God never does.

Do you know even maybe 10% of the things in the world? I sure don’t.

But I know God knows 100%. I know you might not think He exists, but to me and all the Christians He is real.

There’s really no other way to break it down to you. Plain and simple. God is real.

  • Fireball:

no cuz GOD IS THE ONE WHO GIVES eternal life!!!

    see science…TIRH
